TWD: Tartest Lemon Tart

Happy Tuesday! This week, the Tuesdays with Dorie group made the Tartest Lemon Tart, chosen by Barb of Babette Feasts.

This tart was made from whole lemons. Yep, the lemon pulp, peel, and skin all got thrown into the blender with sugar, egg, cream, cornstarch and butter. It's a dessert for true lemon lovers.

I questioned my status as a true lemon lover and decided to remove the pith, the white part between the lemon pulp and the skin. (That's the pith on the left.)

I'll just cut to the chase here, since my review is not a glowing one. I didn't like it. At all. It was bitter... much too bitter to enjoy the tangy lemon flavor.

Sorry! It's bound to happen when you're baking every recipe from a cookbook. There are going to be those that don't make your taste buds dance. It's nothing personal.

I'm sure there were plenty of others that did enjoy this tart, though, so please stop by and see all of the lovely lemon tarts at the Tuesday's with Dorie site. The blogroll is on the right hand side.

If you're interested in the recipe, check out the book "Baking, From My Home to Yours", or visit Babette's site.

Bu-bye for now!

Yep - sounds like my review. Waaaay to bitter. But like you said, we're not going to love every single recipe out there!

Mine bubbled over like a volcano, but it turned out fine after some doctoring :) A little bitter, but I don't think my lemons were of the best quality. DELICIOUS dough!

I peeled my pith off as well. I loved this pie though. Your tart looks fabulous! But that apple pie looks tastier! I could just dig in to that!

LOL LOL LOL LOL Wasn't it just last week, or at least not long ago that I mentionned how alike we were?
Boy... this is getting scary!
I also questionned my love for lemon desserts that I thought I looooooved (really!), but then I could not be a true champion lemon lover if I was not to have the whole lemon in the tart, right? But what the heck, I didn't and went even further that you, for I even supremed my lemon wedges! ...and in the end my family raved about the tart, just not me. But I can tell you why though, because I'm sure you are like me and loooooved some other lemon, even if very acid tarts, right?
It is the use of cream in it... makes it taste like iron, or well... I won't say the other flavour it gives it, wouldn't want to sound out of order, ya know.
All other lemon pies and tarts I've made that mixed cream with lemon, were just awful tasting to me.

But it is sad that such prettiness (and easiness) does not live up to its looks, no?!

well, considering that i don't particularly like lemon desserts in the first place, i shall steer clear of this one to be sure. interesting concept though. :)

Oh, that was a lot of work to not really end up with something you liked...we had a divided household here, too. Matt's comment was "Is there chocolate next week?" LOL. Your tart does look lovely...and boy do I ever admire the way you can peel a lemon and remove the pith!

You are right - it is impossible to love them all. I've heard great reviews about the most Extraordinary Lemon Tart that TWD did last April. Maybe that one would be more to your liking! Your tart looks really pretty, though!

I love this tart! The lemon is sooo good!

I got rid of the pith, too. I didn't want to take any chances. I really haven't eaten it yet though and now I'm a little bit nervous about diving into it later. Hope it's mellowed a bit. And the pics of the lemons are really pretty!

I'm sorry that you didn't like it but agree, when you're making every recipe there are bound to be a few that don't measure up.

I agree, you can't love everyting, but at least you're honest! I had to skip this week because I knew bitter was not my thing..haha. At least you made it! Wow, even after removing the pith, it was still bitter?!? I guess if I'm looking for a lemon tart, I'll go straight to the other one that everyone raves about!

I'm glad I used the organic lemons, otherwise I think it would have been too bitter. And I agree - you can't like every recipe in the book!

I guess it depends on the lemon to a certain extent too. I do love lemon! There is always next week. :)

I guess I'm a true lemon lover. I loved it -- although I did serve it with ice cream! Yours looks beautiful! Sorry you didn't enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Next week. . .

Oh, I'm so sorry you didn't like this. Mine wasn't bitter and I loved the tart tart taste. Maybe it was the lemons. funny how it was split that some were bitter and some not.

It is pretty, though.
