FFwD: Pumpkin-Gorgonzola Flan

November is going to be an interesting month at French Fridays with Dorie. The members voted on a number of recipes and the top four vote-getters are the recipes for the month. The twist is that members get to pick the order in which they bake the chosen recipes.

One of the more intriguing recipes of the month is the one I chose for the week, Pumpkin-Gorgonzola Flans.

A savory flan, it has few ingredients but is long on taste.

Pumpkin, eggs, and cream are whizzed in the food processor and poured into the awaiting ramekins. The mixture is topped with chunks of Gorgonzola cheese and walnuts, then baked in a water bath.

And how was it? If you like Gorgonzola, you'll like this, like my husband did. However, if you don't like Gorgonzola... well, yea, you're gonna like it... not so much.

I didn't know I didn't like Gorgonzola. I don't like it. A lot. Sadly, I didn't like this dish. BUT, I'm guessing a change-out of the type of cheese and I would have liked this just fine. The pumpkin custard was tasty and light, from what I could tell with my one bite.

OK, that's it for this week. Head on over to the FFwD site if you'd like to see the rest of the month's line-up or check out other member's dishes.

For the recipe, get ahold of a copy of Dorie Greenspan's book, Around my French Table.

Sorry you discovered you don't like gorgonzola. However, your flans are beautiful!

It all looks great...that said, I was already trying to wrap my mind about this recipe and thinking that it did not sound as if the ingredients would go together very nicely. Others are saying they do, you are a divided household, I think that means I am going to need to try it out for myself to decide. It looks cute in a ramekin.

I didn't like them either! Hard to believe when everything else we've made tastes so good.

They look great! I must say, though, all the people I've read that said they didn't like them are making me think twice about this particular recipe. . .

Yours look great! Sorry you didn't like them, but you could always send them to me...I thought they were yummy, especially with a little honey drizzled over the top. ;)

I've known for along time that I just can't "do" moldy cheeses. I even tried. Just can't do it. So this recipe had me wonderin'. I haven't looked yet, but probably a number of cheese could be substituted. Haven't decided if I'll make this one or not.
Glad you hubby liked it!

Your flans look perfect - your photo is more appetizing than the one in the book. Gorgonzola is very sharp, but given I just shelled out $10 for a wedge, I am going to push on regardless.
