TWD: Espresso Cheesecake Brownies

For this week's Tuesday's with Dorie recipe, Melissa of Life in a Peanut Shell chose Espresso Cheesecake Brownies.

Sounds good, huh? It was a brownie base topped by an espresso cheesecake with a portion of the brownie batter swirled in. (I left out the espresso and the sour cream topping.)

I have a feeling this is a recipe that would be perfect if you baked it for exactly the right amount of time. Unfortunately, I don't think I baked it for exactly the right amount of time.

Boo...

So much potential there...

I halved the recipe and baked it in a 7" spring-form pan. I think I over-baked because my cheesecake was a little dry and my brownie was dry and gummy. (Update: I tried them again and I've decided they're actually OK. Maybe I still had a case of the morning grouchies when I first tried them... always a possibility before 9 a.m.)

Chalk it up as "one of those weeks". (Sorry, Melissa, please don't take it personal.)

As always, you can find this recipe in Dorie Greenspan's book "Baking, From my Home to Yours" or, check out Melissa's blog. Hers looks wonderful.

I'm sorry they weren't a hit... they do look pretty darn great from here though!

But you're right... I think I over baked them too.

Your swirls look great. These were okay to me. I wanted to like them so much more than I did.

it's funny that you're fighting dry brownies while i'm dealing with underdone ones. ah, the trials and tribulations of the baker. :)

It looks like an absolutely perfect mini chocolate brownie cheesecake. I would never know from the pictures that it didn't turn out well. I'm sorry you ended up with dry brownies, what a pain!

They still look gorgeous even though they weren't well liked.

I bet it was still delicious! It would take a lot to eff up brownies AND cheesecake! Lol ;P

Your brownie cheesecake looks great. Funny, I often change my mind about the taste of something I've baked too.

I'm sorry that they didn't work out! They really do look great - and who knows, maybe on the third try you'll really fall in love with them!

I like how you made them in a round! Little pieces of cake brownies. Sorry they weren't the biggest hit, but they are too cute!

I think I overbaked mine too - but in the end, I still didn't care for them.

Glad to see someone else used the springform. It worked out well for these.

They were pretty good. Yours look perfect. Sorry they weren't for you.

Those look great - love the presentation. Like you, I was disappointed in the flavor.

These look pretty darned good to me! I mean brownie+cheesecake=how bad can it be?? I haven't made mine yet so I'm getting really good tips, like making them in a springform! Brilliant!

That's a cute little slice there. I thought these were dry, too, so maybe it wasn't just you overbaking. I made them three times to try to improve them each time. Third time was a charm, I used the Hepburn brownie recipe. Quite good!
