TWD: Allspice Crumb Muffins

It's time for another edition of Tuesday's with Dorie, folks. This week Kayte of Grandma’s Kitchen Table chose Allspice Crumb Muffins.

They were a light and fluffy muffin with allspice in both the muffin base and the struesel topping.

I'll cut to the chase... they weren't too pretty, but they tasted *really* good. And I'll take tasty over looks any day.

I have no idea what happened to the struesel topping. My guess is that the butter in the struesel topping wasn't cold enough or maybe there was just too much of it. After baking, the muffin cups were quite greasy... no doubt from all of that butter.

They were enjoyed by all, though, and that's what counts. Thanks Kayte, for a great pick!

If you'd like to see the recipe, check out Dorie Greenspan's book "Baking, From my Home to Yours", or visit Kayte's site.

  11. Now you see it, now you don't streusel? I think you suspicion about the butter temp seems reasonable. Glad they were tasty.

  17. Hey, I love the butter in my baked goods even if I did lighten things up a bit. They looks so delish and with the cool, wet weather we have been having a little hot tea to go with it sounds perfect. Yummo and scrumptious. Sometimes its about the taste. This time. AmyRuth

  20. Jacques, those muffins looks so moist and delicious. I've got to get this Dorie cookbook asap, since TWD entries have been making me drool for like a year now.

On another note, yes, I would love a chunk of that peppermint bark :) Great photos of all, too!

  21. I had the same issue with the buttery muffin papers after baking. Over flowing melty butter I think. But you're right, tasty is always better than pretty!
