TWD: Honey-Wheat Cookies
For this week's Tuesday's with Dorie recipe, Michelle of Flourchild chose Honey-Wheat Cookies.
The name pretty much sums them up. They were chock full of wheat germ inside and had a healthy dusting of wheat germ outside. A generous amount of honey pairs with the wheat germ so that it almost seems like you're having a healthy snack.
To be honest, I went back and forth between thinking these cookies were OK and thinking something was a little off. It wasn't until I read the discussion on the TWD forum that I realized what it was. I thought the amount of honey was a little over-whelming and they were a tad too sweet. Maybe cutting the honey by half would have made these better... it seems that a lot of other TWD bakers really liked them a lot.
OK, seems that's all I've got to say...if you'd like to see the recipe, you can stop by Michelle's blog or get yourself a copy of Dorie Greenspan's book, "Baking, From my Home to Yours".
These cookies seem delicious. I like honey very much.

ReplyDeleteI liked them too, but didn't love them. I was thinking of trying them again and subbing Kamut flour for the AP and agave for the honey.
ReplyDeleteThey look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing some of that back and forth stuff too. As I keep stuffing them in my face, that is. Yours look delicious!
ReplyDeleteYour cookies look great! I really loved them -- but I can see how they were not for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI think you may have made me realized why I loved these cookies so much- I love honey! Your cookies look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI happen to love the taste of honey, and I used orange instead of lemon.
ReplyDeleteI thought they were really good, maybe because they seemed so healthy!
Your cookies look great. I upped the amount of lemon zest and I think that kept the honey flavor in the background. I liked them alot!
ReplyDeleteif i'm gonna have a cookie, it's gonna be chock-full of things that aren't so good for me. that's the attraction of a cookie! if i want honey wheat, i'll have a slice of bread. :)
ReplyDeleteYummie, these cookies look delicious...honey, would love to have it with a cup of tea :-)
ReplyDeleteThey look good and healthy! Im glad you went for it and baked with me this week!
ReplyDeleteNeeds ice cream! I might look into these actually.. I have wheat germ in the freezer.
ReplyDeleteI thought these had a lot of honey flavor too. I like the texture a lot though. Yours look nice!
ReplyDeleteYour cookies look terrific! I was expecting a little more wheat than honey. If these get a repeat performance, the honey will probably be reduced and I'll sub some WW flour for AP.
ReplyDeleteYour cookies look perfect. I thought after a day the honey flavor mellowed a bit and was not as strong. Maybe using applesauce in place of some of the honey would keep them soft and moist.

I didn't tell anyone, but I think mine tasted a bit "off" as well. However, I think my wheat germ was a little old. Shhh...
ReplyDeleteI decided they weren't quite sweet enough and slathered them with a thyme infused icing!
ReplyDeleteI happen to love these cookies with tea...the lemon and honey were already included, so I thought that was a great deal! Yours look wonderful.
